May Do-LPC
Hi, I am May, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arizona. I provide compassionate, culturally responsive care to adolescents (ages 13 and up) and adults. I was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States at age 12, and I bring a deep understanding of identity, resilience, and cultural connection into my work. I am fluent in Vietnamese, Cantonese, and English, which allows me to support clients from diverse backgrounds with cultural sensitivity and care.
Why Therapy?
Life’s journey includes both meaningful and difficult moments. Navigating different stages of life can bring unexpected challenges, but it can also create opportunities for growth and self-discovery. I believe therapy offers a supportive space to reflect, process experiences, and build understanding. Whether you are facing stress, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, or life transitions such as career changes or identity concerns, therapy can help you find clarity and support.
Qualifications and Experience
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Arizona (#LPC-20929), trained in a range of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Brainspotting, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Expressive Arts Therapy. I specialize in working with trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, grief, and life transitions. My clinical background includes work in a domestic violence program, community-based case management, and school counseling. I have extensive experience in trauma-informed care, with a focus on safety, empowerment, and collaboration, and a deep understanding of how trauma affects the nervous system, relationships, and emotional well-being. I also spent over six years supporting neurodivergent children and their families, as well as two years serving Native American communities on the reservation, which strengthened my commitment to cultural humility and community-centered care.
My work is grounded in a trauma-informed approach, meaning I prioritize safety, choice, and respect without making assumptions or pathologizing clients’ experiences. I recognize how trauma can shape identity, relationships, and one’s sense of safety, and I strive to meet each client where they are—honoring their pace and autonomy while offering practical, evidence-based tools for healing. My goal is to help clients build insight, strengthen coping skills, and experience greater emotional balance within a supportive and nonjudgmental environment.
While traditional talk therapy can be highly effective for increasing self-awareness and understanding patterns, trauma is often held not only in our thoughts, but also in the body and nervous system. Because of this, I integrate EMDR into my work as a more direct, research-supported method for processing distressing experiences. As an EMDR Certified Therapist, I help clients safely work through painful memories without becoming overwhelmed. This approach can reduce emotional intensity and support both the brain and body in moving toward greater regulation, resilience, and healing.
Outside of work, I enjoy time with my children, gardening, and being in nature.
At the core of my work, I believe healing happens through connection, safety, and collaboration, and that every person has the capacity for growth and meaningful change.
